Watch the unlikely pairing play out in a memorable performance here.
The team at NPR’s Tiny Desk have had an incredible summer thus far. Following last month’s resounding success with a highlight performance from legendary NOLA champion Juvenile, which included special guests Mannie Fresh, Trombone Shorty and Jon Batiste, Tiny Desk has again leveled up with an unconventional pick.
While the Twitter propelled the Juvenile play to come to fruition, a post from the satirical specialists at The Hard Times, The Onion of the punk world, ultimately influenced Tiny Desk’s next move – manifesting an intimate set from the Scumdogs of the Universe, GWAR.

Though the post was initially intended to get some laughs at how unlikely the scenario would be, Tiny Desk flexed some audacity and invited GWAR to actually perform a behind the desk set at their headquarters in Washington D.C.
Blothar the Beserker spoke about what is now being referred to as the NPGWAR takeover. “We learned a lot from those goody-goodys at NPR. For instance, how to say…’Your support right now is vital to GWAR’s ability to bring you quality cultural and educational programming that leaves you soaked in bodily fluids and shame.’ NPR can give you coffee cups and satin totes, but we can give your souls eternal torment, so give to GWAR today.”
The Tiny Desk performance arrives as GWAR prep for their summer stretch on the Psychotherapy Sessions Tour supporting Mudvayne and Coal Chamber. In addition to the amphitheater sets, Gwar will have their own headlining plays with the likes of Nonpoint, Crobot and 200 Stab Wounds supporting. Gwar will also make a handful of festival appearances including Rocklahoma. See the full list of live dates below.
